Behind Sunshine Legal Services: Our Journey

Caelyn McNicol is the Chief Investigator at Sunshine Legal Services. She graduated from Colorado State University with a double major in Communication Studies and Political Science, maintaining a GPA of 3.5 while working full-time and raising a child.

After graduation, Caelyn worked as an Investigator at the Fort Collins Office of the Colorado State Public Defender, where she developed a passion for giving voice to those experiencing the most trying times of their lives. Throughout her decade-plus career as a Defense Investigator, she thoroughly investigated hundreds of cases, encompassing everything from traffic infractions to homicides. No case is too small or too complex for Caelyn.

She has a proven track record of effectively collaborating with both experienced and new attorneys. One of Caelyn’s key strengths is her ability to interact with a variety of people, including witnesses, opposing parties, and colleagues.

Recently, she spent two years serving in the Peace Corps in Zambia, an experience that required resilience, care for others, adaptability, and bright solutions – even in unfamiliar situations. Caelyn is back in Northern Colorado and eager to help.

When she isn’t advocating for justice, Caelyn enjoys spending time with her family (including the furry ones) and friends, and traveling. Her love for life shines bright; her nickname, after all, is Sunshine.
